Managing F&B Table Linen in Hotels

How hotel F&B teams keep tablecloths and napkins crisp, stain-free, and ready for every service.

Managing F&B Table Linen in Hotels

Table linen sets the tone of a dining room before a single dish arrives. A creased cloth or a faint wine ring tells guests the operation is not quite sharp, and banquet events multiply that risk across hundreds of covers at once. This article covers how hotel table linen should be managed across restaurants, banquets, and events.

Why table linen is different from room linen

Table linen lives in front of the guest at close range and under bright light, so finish matters as much as cleanliness. The stains are food and drink based, with red wine, oil, candle wax, and coffee being the usual culprits, and each needs its own treatment. On top of that, tablecloths come in many sizes for different table shapes, which makes sorting and par planning more complex than a stack of identical sheets.

Stain handling for food and drink

F&B stains are protein, tannin, oil, and pigment, and treating them all the same leaves marks behind. Red wine and coffee are tannin stains, butter and salad oil are greasy, and candle wax needs to be lifted before washing or it spreads. A laundry that sorts table linen by stain type and pre-treats accordingly will return far fewer rejects than one that runs everything through a single cycle.

  • Red wine and coffee: tannin, treat before they set
  • Oil and butter: greasy, needs degreasing chemistry
  • Candle wax: lift solid wax first, then wash
  • Lipstick and sauce: pigment, often needs targeted spotting

Pressing and finish that holds up

A clean tablecloth that arrives creased still looks wrong on the floor. Proper finishing, whether flatwork ironing for cloths or folding for napkins, is what makes the difference between linen that looks set and linen that looks stored. Crisp, square folds and a smooth surface read as care, and they hold better through setup if the linen is finished and handled correctly on the way back to you.

Planning par stock around banquets

Restaurant table linen turns over at a fairly steady rate, but banquets spike demand without warning. A single wedding or conference can need more cloths and napkins in one evening than the main restaurant uses in a week. Build your par around the event calendar, not just daily covers, and confirm linen is committed and turned around in time for back-to-back functions.

Matching a laundry to F&B volume

F&B linen is unforgiving on both quality and timing, so the laundry behind it has to handle volume without dropping finish. Arifa processes up to 25 tonnes a day across two Johor Bahru factories and already serves hotel clients such as Puteri Pacific and Berjaya Waterfront, which means table linen for a busy banquet program is well within capacity.
